Trio to tackle PBS ITV trials
A trio of companies will team on trials for Public Broadcasting Service's interactive Life 360 launch, starting Friday. Under the deal, Zenith Electronics Corp. will supply set-top boxes to about 100 homes for the trials.
Triveni Digital will supply the SkyScraper DataFab data broadcasting system to insert data into the DTV transmission.
Zenith's set-top boxes built to Advanced Television Enhancement Forum specifications, allow interactive material to broadcast with the program, rather than via an Internet connection.
SkyScraper DataFab lets content providers schedule, insert and manage enhanced data securely, and the SkyScraper DataHub allows providers to allocate and manage bandwidth use while merging data packets with video programs, broadcasting the complete transport stream, Zenith says.
Trials are planned for Trenton, N.J.; San Francisco; Milwaukee; Denver; and Boston.
