SofaWare Touts Home Net Safety

SofaWare Technologies has launched Safe@Home, a consumer-targeted security management system the company will market to cable operators and Internet service providers.

Safe@Home–which employs firewall technology, scans for e-mail viruses and embeds parental control features–is designed to protect every IP device on a home network. The company is presently discussing its security measures with CableLabs as the R&D organization continues to move forward with its CableHome initiative, said SofaWare Senior Product Evangelist Chip Schooler.

To date, Ericsson is the only cable-modem vendor to embed SofaWare's security features, offering it in its Piperider-branded "HM204c" DOCSIS and "HM205c" EuroDOCSIS models, Schooler said.

SofaWare is exploring several pricing options, including a "pay-as-you-go" monthly fee for consumers and service operators and a one-time licensing arrangement.
