Wind River Systems Inc. will develop a hardware and software platform for DSP-driven system-on-a-chip embedded applications from StarCore Technology Center.

StarCore is an R&D initiative between Agere Systems and Motorola, with an aim to develop DSP cores and development tools to help the two companies in DSP SoC solutions.

Under the deal with Motorola and Agere, Wind River will develop and provide Diab C/C++ compiler and RTA Suite of run-time analysis tools, a "StarCore-targeted" source-level debugger, VisionProbe hardware debug tools, and a "future" version of Wind River's Tornado integrated development environment, the company reports.

Wind River also will supply a multicore DSP operating system, stemming from its recent acquisition of Eonic Systems.
