Alcatel will use Texas Instruments Inc.'s programmable digital signal processors in its central office VoDSL products, TI reports.

Alcatel already uses TI's DSPs and Telogy software in its Speed Touch integrated access devices, and the new deal means Alcatel will use the technology in its 7300 Advanced Services Access Manager, a broadband access platform.

The 7300 ASAM optimizes a network's bandwidth to streamline delivery of multiple voice lines and data simultaneously via Telogy software. TI's DSP will allow the 7300 to support such features as tone detection and generation, voice activity detection, echo cancellation up to 128 milliseconds, comfort noise generation and fax relay, TI says.

The 7300's gateway also will support voice encoding technologies, including pulse code modulation and adaptive differential PCM. Telogy's software also supports the ATM Forum BLES standard.
