Philips Digital Networks and BarcoNet nudged a little closer to conditional access system interoperability with digital TV broadcast equipment when the two finished tests on their integrated products.

Philips' CryptoWorks CA system was tested on BarcoNet's Krypton DVB Simulcrypt-compliant transport stream scrambler. The two say the results were successful and prove "the feasibility of the concept of an open platform in digital television and guarantees interoperability between manufacturers of CA systems and digital TV broadcast equipment."

The Krypton DVB Simulcrypt-compliant digital headend scrambler allows selected programs in an MPEG-2 transport stream to be scrambled according to the DVB Common Scrambling Algorithm. CryptoWorks is a CA system in the pay-TV and IP domains. The two products were integrated via the DVB Simulcrypt interface protocol.
