Liberate losses widen, revenue up for Q4/FY2001
Liberate Technologies' net losses for the quarter more than doubled over last year, but its revenue nearly doubled, as well.
The company reports net losses of $79.5 million, or 76 cents a share, for its fourth quarter ended May 31 — higher than the $37.0 million, or 41 cents a share, a year ago.
Revenue for the quarter was $16.1 million — up 77 percent from a year ago's $9.1 million.
Revenues for the 12 months ended May 31 were $51.7 million, up 85 percent over the $28.0 million for a comparable period a year ago. Its net loss the year reached $306.4 million, or $2.99 a share.
Liberate says its total deployments by May 31 reached 1.5 million, driving up license and royalty revenue 171 percent over the previous fiscal year. It says it only includes deployments with royalty reports in its revenue and some of such proceeds 1.5 million deployments will go into future quarters.
Excluding special charges, the company projects revenues of $16.2 million to $16.7 million for the next quarter, and $77 million to $80 million for its next fiscal year. Pro forma net losses per share will reach 12 cents to 13 cents a share for the quarter and 33 cents to 35 cents a share for the next year.
