Time Warner's Oceanic Cablevision division installed Scientific-Atlanta's Prisma II bdr baseband digital reverse fiber optic system in its system in Hawaii.

Oceanic used the system to upgrade the "Big Island of Hawaii" with a digital headend and a single hub with associated optical transition nodes, says Oceanic Cable Transmission Systems Director Metod Lebar in a statement.

TWC also chose the product partly because it was easy to install, and the company's VOD system in Oahu saw an immediate 10 DB improvement in its fiber link performance, Lebar adds. "We were also able to concentrate multiple return segments on a single fiber, thus conserving remaining fiber for future use."

The Prisma II line is an optical transmission platform designed to enable advancements in S-A's bdr technologies for digital reverse and its 24 DWDM capabilities for forward and reverse applications, S-A reports.
