TVN/Cogeco tap Concurrent's back-office system
Concurrent Computer Corp. tested and passed TVN's Digital Content Express for use with the MediaHawk Model 2000 video server.
Digital Content Express includes such services as content acquisition, encoding, transmission and receipt, forward error-correction, and subsequent manipulation of MPEG-2 and related metadata files for commercial VOD deployments.
Concurrent's MediaHawk Broadband VOD system includes the MediaHawk Video Server and Broadband VOD BackOffice Business Management system.
The two developed interface specifications to streamline and automate secure delivery of VOD and other digital products between content owners and distributors, Concurrent reports.
"Our main goal was to deliver in partnership with Concurrent a secure and automated commercial content packaging and delivery system that will allow our mutual MSO customers to aggressively roll out VOD, SVOD and other content on demand services," TVN President and CEO Ian Aaron said in a statement.
Concurrent also was chosen as VOD provider by Cogeco Cable, which will deploy Concurrent's VOD in Ontario and Quebec. In the provinces, Cogeco has already deployed more than 108,000 digital TV set-tops using Motorola's digital platform.
The VOD system underwent an intensive evaluation by Cogeco, Concurrent reports, and the project represents its first deployment of a multilingual user interface with its MediaHawk BackOffice Management system.
