TollBridge Technologies will deploy two VoIP gateways, the TB300 and TB200, to support global standards across all major access media, the company reports.

The new ETSI V5.2 solution has been successfully tested and deployed using the PacketCable Network-based Call Signaling specification, the ATM Forum LANE implementation and the ADSL Forum Broadband Loop Emulation Service (BLES) for access to the cable, DSL, wireless and T1 markets for telephony services. The V5.2 protocol targets the major service providers of South America, Europe and Asia. Thus far, vendors have offered voice gateway platforms based on the GR-303 standard widely used in North America, TollBridge reports. The rest of the world relies on the V5.2 for interfacing to circuit-switched networks.

"The TollBridge gateway solution enables service providers to offer voice communications and other value-added services over any broadband medium," says VP of product marketing Kevin Woods, in a statement, adding that the product enables TollBridge to expand into international markets.

TollBridge says it has partnerships, trials and agreements with major European, South American and Asian carriers, including DSL lab trials with Singapore Telecom and Korea Telecom, and lab demonstrations with Pacific Century CyberWorks (Hong Kong Telecom), it says. TollBridge also recently partnered with Nortel Networks to help build Germany's first voice over coaxial cable network. The TB300 used in Germany is based on the V5.2 protocol, the CableLabs NCS specification and DOCSIS.

TollBridge's TB300 V5.2 solution is designed to support NCS specification, an enhancement to the industry de facto standard Media Gateway Control Protocol. The NCS architecture is used by cable operators who want to enable the deployment of packet-based IP telephony services.
