Spike lands $335 M fixed wireless deal
Spike Broadband Systems Inc. will supply Danish network operator SONOFON with more than $335 million in fixed wireless equipment to deploy what the two bill as the largest fixed wireless deployment thus far.
The equipment allows broadband services to be deployed in the 3.5 GHz frequency band. The service, which is expected to deploy over the next five years, will reach 95 percent of Denmark's population, Spike reports.
Under the agreement, Spike will work with an international systems integrator to provide SONOFON with the equipment. The two will build the fixed broadband network infrastructure in the first two years, and Spike will deliver nationwide coverage with its base stations.
Spike expects to increase the base stations' capacity to meet an expected increased consumer demand by the fourth year.
For its part, the partnership lets SONOFON provide such services as VoIP, fax over IP, VOD and content filtering on the Internet.
