Corning speeds short undersea networks
Corning Inc. launched its Vascade L1000 fiber for unrepeated or short-haul submarine networks, Corning says today.
A single-mode fiber designed for the rigors of the shorthaul undersea networks and their higher data rates, Corning says the product increases the amount of optical power the fiber can carry without increasing susceptibility to nonlinear effects.
It likewise features low attenuation in the 1530 to 1565 nm operating window to allow greater reach and longer system lengths.
Corning says its in-house tests showed the fiber demonstrated better performance at 30 percent tighter channel spacing than that of the standard, single-mode fiber now used in such networks.
