Nortel Networks issued a raft of deal announcements locally and in China.

A deal with Minerva Networks will allow the two to co-market and implement broadband IP video solutions and systems allowing businesses and service providers to offer bundled data, voice and video services.

The video network architecture combines Minerva's IP Headend for subscriber management, media aggregation and distribution of entertainment services over Nortel's broadband IP networks, Nortel says.

Spring Independent School District near Houston will use the ISD network, a fiber infrastructure, Optical Ethernet transport, Layer 3 switching, CoS and QoS to stream educational video to classrooms across 57 square miles, Nortel reports.

Likewise, Nortel and Corning Inc. are jointly demonstrating a DWDM metro optical system in Shanghai.

The system has 50 kilometers of Corning's MetroCor optical fiber operating in the C-band at 2.5 Gbps over Nortel's OPTera Metro 5200 system, Nortel reports.

The 5200 includes a survivable platform with tributary interfaces for metro access and interoffice applications, and uses current fiber infrastructure.

In other deals, wireless carrier China Mobile contracted with Nortel for $105 million in expansions of GSM digital cellular networks in Heibei, Anhui and Guizhou provinces. And in Bejjng, Ningbo Unicom awarded a $31 million contract to Nortel for expansion of its existing GSM 900/1800 dual-band digital cellular network.
