Newpoint Technologies Inc. landed a lucrative contract with Artel Inc. and Artel's part of $2.1 billion in work on the Defense Information System Network Satellite Transmission Services - Global. No word yet on Newpoint's portion of the deal.

Newpoint will supply fixed and global satellite services for any government agency needing satellite bandwidth and satellite-based hardware, services and applications, Newpoint reports.

The project will use Newpoint's Compass and Mercury products in its network management systems, chosen for their scalability into very large applications, real-time performance and intelligent remote site management, said Newpoint President and CEO Paul Houle in a statement.

Compass is a software package with real data-accessing speed, while the Compass real-time data server has a special indexing algorithm to support data updates in milliseconds, the company reports.

Mercury helps manage unmanned remote sites with such features as real-time performance, Web-browser interface, local logic, replication and dial-back connection on lost satellite links.
