Austin-based Grande Communications will use Liberate TV Platform software from Liberate Technologies on its interactive services in central Texas.

Grande is building a ground-up, deep fiber broadband network that provides bundled, high-speed Internet access, local and long-distance phone, and cable TV services to Austin, San Antonio and Houston. The company has franchises in more than 25 Texas cities allowing the bundled services to about 1.6 million homes.

Grande says it's using the Liberate TV Platform Compact software along with Motorola DCT-2000 set-top boxes.

The project initially will give subscribers access to Source Media's ITV applications, including the SourceGuide and LocalSource interactive programming services. Later this year, the company plans to add more interactive services, including VOD and TV-based e-mail.

Grande last year landed $233 million in initial equity funding and is employee-owned.
