Concurrent and Pace team up to provide VOD, interactive digital video

Concurrent Computer Corp. and Pace Micro Technology plc recently announced a strategic partnership which promotes the integration of the two companies' technologies for the deployment of video-on-demand (VOD) and interactive digital video solutions worldwide.

Concurrent's MediaHawk Broadband VOD systems have been integrated with Pace Micro Technology digital home gateways to support a variety of high bandwidth digital broadband delivery systems including HFC, DSL and ATM transport networks. Both IP streaming and MPEG-2 transport streams are supported.

The combination of the two commercially deployed technologies is an open systems integration and offers broadband system operators compliance with a broad range of international agency and de facto standards.

The Pace/Concurrent VOD technology is integrated with set-top box middleware, conditional access systems, electronic program guides, and interactive TV applications. The two companies will jointly market and deploy their integrated VOD system worldwide.

Additionally, Concurrent announced in March that the University of Maryland Libraries, Non-print Media Services, has selected its MediaHawk Video Server to support VOD over IP and baseband networks for education applications.
