Silicon Valley-based EnReach Technology Inc. integrated its digital TV software on Broadcom Corp.'s set-top box reference platform. The combination blends EnReachTV interactive services, such as Web browsing, e-mail, personal video recording and enhanced TV, with Broadcom's BCM93710 set-top platform, and presumably will reduce manufacturing time and cost-to-market for cable set-top providers.
The new system also aims to give service providers complete flexibility over the client-server software modules they select. And EnReach's partnership with OEM, chip and server manufacturers means it can combine the ITV client and backend server hardware and let service providers with cable, DSL, fiber optic and wireless systems deploy turnkey multimedia services for viewer directed TV.
Broadcom's reference platform is based on the single-chip BCM7100, which includes front-end, back-end, CPU, system control and peripherals. It also contains a DAVIC media access controller for two-way interactivity.
EnReach provides infrastructure software for voice, video and data solutions services on TVs.
