MultiPath Access is bringing high-speed wireless Internet access to residents in the Baltimore, Md. and Washington areas. MultiPath deploys a combination of fiber-optic and copper backbones with fixed wireless extensions to deliver signal over the last-mile to commercial and residential users. The company is targeting ISPs, CLECs and MDU owners.

"Wireless is the next new medium to deliver broadband services," said Keith Walter, MultiPath's president, in a statement. "It is less expensive to deploy, creates a wider coverage area and delivers more bandwidth to each end user compared to traditional delivery systems." Incube8, a capital and management resource company that invests in early stage technology companies, is one of several different investors backing MultiPath's endeavor.

"The explosive growth and continued demand for Internet access has severely taxed the national communications infrastructure. New access solutions must be developed to meet the service level and content delivery expectations of end users," said Jack Kwicien, Incube8 senior managing director.
