3Com reorganizing; halts Net appliances
An overall market yawn over Net appliances took a solid turn with 3Com's decision to discontinue its Internet appliances, including the Audrey and a planned Kerbango Internet radio. The move comes as part of 3Com's reported third-quarter losses of 36 cents a share and subsequently announced restructuring.
The Santa Clara, Calif.-based 3Com already announced layoffs and other cost-cutting measures totaling $250 million, part of the $1 billion restructuring announced yesterday. 3Com also will improve efficiencies and simplify its business structure, product lines and systems.
