WideOpenWest will use DemandVideo Corp.'s turnkey video-on-demand (VOD) solution to provide customers with immediate access to on-demand entertainment, under the terms of a recent agreement. WideOpenWest is building fiber optic broadband networks through several Western cities, offering residential customers competitive cable TV, VOD, high-speed Internet and low-cost telephone services.

WideOpenWest also announced a three-year deal with Source Media in which the service provider will deploy Source Media's interactive program guide, SourceGuide, and LocalSource interactive portal through digital set-top convertors. SourceMedia services will launch to WideOpenWest customers in the Denver metro area this month.

For the WideOpenWest deployments, DemandVideo has selected nCube's streaming media appliance, the n4, to power the system. Video content resides within the n4 as "digital files" which are accessed by the cable TV set-top boxes that reside in the customers' homes. The n4's scalability allows it to stream massive amounts of digital video to thousands of simultaneous users as reliably and cost-effectively as it can stream to hundreds.
