Tellabs will acquire Future Networks for $181 million in cash, enabling Tellabs to provide cable operators with a multi-services solution based on Internet Protocol. Tellabs has more than 1.3 million lines deployed in North America, South America, Asia and Europe. The Cablespan system delivers voice, data and video to homes using a single connection to a cable network. "The addition of Future Networks vaults Tellabs into the leading position to deliver customers a best-in-class, end-to-end solution for data and voice service delivery over cable and a seamless migration path for existing customers," says J. Thomas Gruenwald, vice president and general manager of Tellabs broadband access division.
