Scientific-Atlanta has built a network for Cooperativa de Electricidad Bariloche Ltda. (CEB) in Argentina to supply cable television, telephony and Internet access services over a multimedia broadband network to 100,000 residents of Bariloche, a region of western Argentina.

The new network, designed to deliver the full suite of communications services, features a wide range of transmission products purchased from Scientific-Atlanta, including analog headend, optoelectronic and broadband access network transmission equipment.

"Interactive television is here, as evidenced by the growing deployment of Scientific-Atlanta Explorer digital set-tops for interactive services in North America. Because the cable TV trend is moving toward interactive services, CEB is showing great foresight in establishing its network to support that capability," said Fernando Mechetti, Commercial Director for the Southern Cone of Latin America for Scientific-Atlanta. "Because the demand for digital cable is expected to grow dramatically across Latin America, cable operators in the region are bypassing digital broadcast and upgrading with moves directly to systems that will deliver a range of interactive services."
