Qwest Communications International announced last month that it had been awarded a new $100 million agreement to construct and support high-speed local area broadband networks that will provide Internet access to Arizona's 228 public school districts. Qwest will also manage every aspect of the project and provide a wide range of services, including network consulting, architecture design, maintenance and security. More than 800,000 students in grades K-12 will benefit from this contract between Qwest and the Arizona School Facilities Board as the high-speed network is introduced in schools throughout the state during the next three years.

Qwest is providing local area network services with speeds up to 100 Mbps to each of the state's 1,222 schools by June 2003. This type of connectivity allows schools to run a variety of applications that require significant bandwidth, including full-motion video streaming into classrooms, e-learning, e-government and other online resources.
