RealNetworks and Wavefly want to get media junkies away from the PC. The two companies believe Internet information should be received throughout the home, and have combined their efforts to deliver Internet media to the TV or stereo.

"Our vision is to deliver a great Internet media experience from any platform, to any device," said Len Jordan, senior vice president, Consumer Appliances, RealNetworks, in a statement. "The combination of the Wavefly and RealNetworks technologies, which are both easy to install and use, will provide an end-to-end solution that can enable the next generation of Internet-based entertainment."

Wavefly and RealNetworks will incorporate RealPlayer8 into products based on the Wavefly Convergence Platform(WCP) that allow PCs to deliver Internet media to other consumer media devices. The RealNetworks/Wavefly solution will be licensable to consumer electronics manufacturers.
