Measuring broadband reach

Broadband living is becoming a way of life, but are service providers' rollout plans in line with user demand? The Moving Towards Broadband Ubiquity research study aims to find out.

The study, which is being conducted by research firm Cahners In-Stat Group, in conjunction with CED and its sister publication, Broadband Week, will measure broadband deployment and implementation over the coming years against two groups: broadband service providers and business end-users. A minimum of 1,000 qualified study participants from the two groups combined will be surveyed.

"The study will characterize the rollout and deployment of broadband, and analyze whether or not user demand and service provider plans are in alignment," says Mark Kirstein, principal analyst at In-Stat. The group will also compile information on the scope of the overall broadband market, including video, voice and data services.

Individuals working with broadband service providers or broadband business end-users are invited to take the Broadband Ubiquity survey now at www.cedmagazine.com/survey/index.htm. Participants will receive study results, free of charge, before they are released to the general public. And, unlike many industry studies, results will be made available to individuals who request it free of charge. This is made possible through sponsor support from broadband solution companies like ADC, Core Networks, Harmonic, Philips, Terayon and others. The study is expected to be released in April 2001.
