Finding Disney's latest price hikes a bit daffy, Cable One is threatening to drop the Disney Channel in Ohio communities unless The Walt Disney Co. lowers its financial demands.

Cable One, which is owned by The Washington Post, says it offered to continue carriage of the Disney Channel if Disney moderated price hikes for the network and ESPN in the future, but Disney refused. Cable One also offered to carry the channel as a premium service, but Disney refused that as well, probably because when Disney was a premium service a few years ago, fewer than six percent of Cable One customers subscribed to it.

The MSO has told 17,000 subscribers that it will not be able to keep monthly rates reasonable and still carry Disney, and unless negotiations produce some sort of accord, the channel will be dropped in Akron on New Year's Eve.

Whether Cable One will drop the Disney Channel on all of its systems, which serve 700,000 subscribers, remains to be seen.
