MetroCast Cablevision's multi-million dollar upgrade is near completion and the MSO will be set to launch its digital TV service to subscribers in New Hampshire.
TVGateway, an interactive program guide, will be a significant part of the digital offering to MetroCast's 35,000 subscribers. TVGateway is a joint venture between four of the six largest U.S. MSOs and managed by WorldGate. The guide is based in the system headend and will give subs more flexibility to find favorite programming and order pay-per-view.
MetroCast chose TVGateway to retain control over deployment of future interactive applications. Because the guide is based in the headend, not in the customer's set-top box, cable operators are more easily able to roll-out interactive programming, advertising, games, e-mail, program guides and e-commerce capabilities.
