Cable MSOs branching out into other businesses
If the Whos down in Who-ville had had home security, that old Grinch wouldn't have gotten past the first chimney.
Realizing the value in keeping the Grinch and regular thieves away, Cox, Comcast, Adelphia, Coditel, Cablevision, Rogers and Shaw are all MSOs investing in @Security Broadband, a company developing broadband home security service.
"Our partnerships with these leading broadband providers will give us a tremendous development advantage while providing them with an additional revenue source that capitalizes on their expansive installed broadband base," says @Security Chairman Jerry Lindauer.
@Security will focus on integrating broadband features like video, Web access and wireless capabilities with home security. The company cites research that says current home security systems are unreliable because they use phone line technology which can only call the police—and the calls are often false.
Once developed, the broadband integrated home security functions will be another level of product offering the MSO can offer to their customers.
