Akamai's technology will be zinging along Electric Lightwave 's Internet backbone, enhancing the quality and performance of Electric's bandwidth hogging content for its customers.

Vancouver, Wash.-based Electric Lightwave provides Internet, data, voice and dedicated access services to bandwidth-intense businesses.

Akamai will deploy servers in several of Electric's different data centers to speed up the delivery of content and improve the look of the streaming media from thousands of "Akamaized" Web properties.

This new alliance will further expand Akamai's global network of servers. Currently, Akamai has more than 6000 servers in 54 countries and professes to have the broadest deployment of servers for content, streaming media and applications delivery.
