Motorola introduces switched IP access system
Motorola is introducing Switched IP Access for HFC telephony that enables faster IP telephony over cable deployments for operators that own a Class 5 switch.
Having all call routing, billing, customer care and CLASS features hosted on an existing Class 5 switch will allow these services to be available from the start. This set-up also helps reduce the overall complexity and technical risk associated with deploying VoIP, according to the company.
The system's single DOCSIS infrastructure for voice and data improves RF bandwidth efficiency. The signaling and transport technologies are based on DOCSIS and PacketCable specifications.
Motorola has also entered into a joint marketing and development agreement - which includes a strategic investment - with Nuera to further develop VoIP technologies.
