Cable Television Laboratories said four cable-modem manufacturers and fourcable-modem-termination- system vendors have submitted products for the first Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification certification/qualification wave involving version 1.1 products.

Certification wave 16, which began October 30, will also include DOCSIS 1.0 product testing. CableLabs said it had received more than 25 cable modems and two CMTSs for the DOCSIS 1.0 portion of the testing. The current testing wave is slated to conclude December 8.

Cisco, Terayon and Toshiba America Information Systems all submitted one cable modem each for DOCSIS 1.1 testing. Future Networks turned in two separate models.

Meanwhile, ADC— which recently acquired Broadband Access Systems — along with Cadant, Cisco and RiverDelta Networks all submitted CMTS products.

Future CableLabs certification waves will conduct tests for both DOCSIS 1.0 and 1.1, said Rouzbeh Yassini, a senior executive consultant to CableLabs. Certification wave 17 is expected to begin January 22, 2001.

DOCSIS 1.1 provides the underpinnings of PacketCable, an industry initiative that will provide an HFC-based, multimedia architecture for voice-over-Internet-protocol services and more advanced applications such as virtual private networks and interactive gaming.
