A new single chip cable modem from Philips has taken resident and SOHO interactive interfaces to the next level. The chip makes connecting to the Internet via high-speed cable modem more affordable and faster. High-speed data, VOIP, multimedia and shared network access will be accelerated.

According to Philips, the new chip, affectionately named PTD1100, a complete system-on-a-chip solution, can deliver the latest products with the lowest bill of materials to date - below $100. The chip functions both as a high-speed modem, and is DOCSIS compliant. The chip is functional in a stand-alone cable modem, or it can be integrated into PC motherboards or add-on boards as an internal device.
