South of the border, Motorola and Cablevision of Mexico have signed a three-year deal for Motorola to provide broadband technology and value-added services to Cablevision. The agreement has been dubbed the Elite Alliance, and is valued at $128 million.
Cablevision has just completed Mexico's first commercial digital cable deployment, which uses the Motorola interactive digital broadband platform. Motorola is supplying Cablevision with digital set-tops, SURFboard cable modems and transmission optics and RF equipment.
Cablevision's 400,000 Mexico City subs receive 40 digital video channels, 40 analog channels and 40 music channels. New services will include VOD and Internet access.
