Comcast touts convergence with SmartZone Calendar
Comcast is offering its customers another avenue to set DVR recordings online through a new feature called SmartZone Calendar.
In a blog posting yesterday, Comcast's Bill Saylor, director of product development, wrote that SmartZone Calendar was yet another example of how Comcast is converging its products and services together for easier use by the cable operator's customers.
SmartZone Calendar is Comcast's latest addition to its SmartZone Communications Center, the latter of which was launched last year. The SmartZone Communications Center gives Comcast subscribers one area online to access their e-mail, voicemail, call logs and calling features, as well as a universal address book.
SmartZone Calendar has been integrated with Comcast's online remote programming application, which also works with Comcast's iPhone and iPad Touch apps for mobile remote programming.
With the latest enhancement, Comcast's SmartZone users can log in to the calendar to view their scheduled recordings, as well as to schedule a recording from the listed calendar options that include categories such as sports and entertainment.
In addition to TV shows, SmartZone Calendar also has schedules loaded for NFL teams, Nascar, Formula 1 and other sporting events. With the schedules, Comcast users are able to find and remotely set their DVRs to record the content that they want.
Earlier this year, Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts demonstrated how an iPad could be used as a remote at The Cable Show. This month, Comcast launched an SMS text messaging service that allows customers to get updates on primetime TV lineups, VOD offerings, sports scores and schedules, and account balances.
