Broadband Briefs for 4/24/08

CedMagazine.com - April 24, 2008

• Arris’ CMTS high-speed data solution chosen by Japanese op
By Traci Patterson

Arris announced that Japan’s iTSCOM has placed an order for the company’s DOCSIS 3.0-qualified integrated cable modem termination system (CMTS) high-speed data solution, which is based on the Arris C4 CMTS.

The deployment of the C4 CMTS-based solution will enable iTSCOM to offer ‘Kattobi Super Wide’ high-speed data service, delivering 160 Mbps in the downstream and 10 Mbps in the upstream to residential customers, Arris said . The deployment also marks the first DOCSIS 3.0-compliant high-speed data solution in Japan, according to iTSCOM.

The C4 CMTS broadband solution's modularity enables forward expansion and converged services – such as voice, business services data and video sharing – to be added without any service interruption, and its software integration capabilities allow operators' solutions to expand as their business needs grow, Arris said.

• Ixia intros “green” 10GigE test module
By Brian Santo

Ixia now has available a layer 2-7, 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) IP testing solution for high-density next-generation data center infrastructure.

Ixia claims that its new 10 GbE IxYukon load module offers four times the 10 GbE port density of its nearest competitor.

With the eight-port IxYukon, 96 10 GbE test ports fit in a standard 19-inch rack-mount Ixia XM12 chassis; Ixia said competitive systems require four fully loaded chasses to match. Ixia also claims that it system requires half of the electrical power.
