Widevine Technologies today announced expanded capabilities for operators to quickly secure content between multiple devices within an in-home network using the company’s Cypher 4.2.

The new release adds hardware acceleration within the Sigma Designs 8364 secure processor on the Cisco line of IP set-top boxes (STBs) and digital video recorders (DVRs) to support enhanced services, such as multi-room DVR . It also includes support for network address translation (NAT) for unlimited expansion of the consumer domain to accommodate STBs, DVRs, PCs, handsets and portable media players.

"Expanding video offerings to multiple devices requires a content protection solution that can flexibly accommodate new services and devices while keeping costs low," said Matt Cannard, VP of marketing at Widevine. "Widevine solves both the operator and consumer pains with a multiplatform and multiformat content protection solution, which enables new or existing operators to connect set-top boxes, PVRs, PCs or portable media players to any set of services."

The Cypher 4.2 is available immediately for telco, cable, satellite, Internet and mobile operators to secure the distribution and consumption of premium content on multiple devices using multiple formats. It also includes support for Motorola’s VIP 1960 and Entone’s Hydra HD IP video gateway.
