With the emergence of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) standards and the PacketCable Release 2 specifications, MSOs are now planning for deployments of new enhanced voice services based on a converged network architecture for the potentially lucrative business market.
However, there’s a problem – many MSOs have extensive voice networks built on traditional telephony switches, so new services need to work seamlessly across both the legacy and IMS worlds. Likewise, business customers, while eager to adopt next-generation applications, have to consider how to integrate them with their existing networks, particularly legacy PBXs.
