By Traci Patterson
CedMagazine.com - February 06, 2008

Dish Network Corp. announced that Charlie Ergen, the chairman of the company’s board and the CEO of Dish Network and EchoStar Corp., has assumed the role of president of Dish Network, effective immediately.

He succeeds Carl Vogel, who has stepped down as president “due to personal reasons,” the company said.

Vogel told friends that he wanted to devote more time to his family and teenage son, who was paralyzed after breaking his neck in a skiing accident in December, The Rocky Mountain News reported.

Vogel will remain as the vice chairman of Dish Network and EchoStar, reporting to Ergen, and he will continue to lead programming, business and commercial services functions, and corporate development.

Dish Network has also promoted two executives. Erik Carlson, previously the SVP of retail services and sales, has been promoted to EVP of operations; and Tom Stingley, previously the SVP of alliance management, has been promoted to EVP of sales and distribution.
