Verizon Business enhances SONET network
By Brian Santo
CedMagazine.com - April 15, 2008

For customers with multiple campuses, Verizon Business says it can now connect those sites directly with an Ethernet link.

The company has engineered its Next Generation (NG) Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) for Metro Ethernet services to enable the connections. The new capability is available to companies subscribing to Verizon Business’ Ethernet LAN (E-LAN) or Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) services .

Verizon explains that NG SONET is well-suited for voice, video and data applications, in that it extends the inherent strength of optical technology to Ethernet applications traversing LAN and wide area network (WAN) connections.

The new capabilities are available within 53 metro markets in the United States, the company said.
