Trilithic has introduced a new system for integrated EAS messaging systems that enables broadcasters to deliver emergency alert messages, graphics and logos for digital broadcasts.
The Visionary HD/SD Overlay System works with Trilithic's EASyCAST Encoder/Decoder to provide EAS messaging and logos for HD-SDI and SD-SDI broadcast streams (1080i, 720p and 480i), including embedded audio and six channels of AES-EBU audio.
A standalone unit, the Visionary system accepts EAS alerts from the encoder/decoder and places them on a broadcast stream via a standard message crawl and EAS audio on the viewer's set. It also allows broadcasters to display station logos or other graphics with the EAS message alerts.
At the same time, the company announced another firmware upgrade for its 860 DSPi Field Analyzer, incorporating new features such as an Error Vector Spectrum display and trace route capability.
Error vector spectrum, a test technique traditionally performed with vector spectrum analyzers, enables the user to view the spectrum characteristics within a QAM signal band (includes deep-interleave signals). This time-saving feature permits viewing ingress or distortion products that can cause tiling of video, slow data transmission or dropped calls.
The EVS feature is a component of the 860's QAM option, and the feature will be added automatically to analyzers with this option when the firmware is updated.
Separately, the company hired Matt Bessette to be a major account manager in its Broadband Instruments Division. Bessette started in the cable industry with HBO and subsequently worked at General Instruments, C-Cor, and most recently at ADC.
