Time Warner Cable (TWC) announced that it has made several regional promotions, including Barry Rosenblum being named EVP for TWC's Texas region.
Rosenblum replaces Wayne Knighton, who is retiring, in the Texas region that serves more than 1.8 million basic subscribers. Rosenblum will continue to report to Landel C. Hobbs, TWC's COO.
Rosenblum was most recently the EVP in charge of TWC's Los Angeles, San Diego and New York City divisions.
Rosenblum led TWC's New York State division at one point in his career. His move to California helped turn around the former Adelphia system in Los Angeles, and in his new role he will face a similar task with the former Adelphia system in Dallas.
The former Adelphia systems, particularly the ones in Los Angeles and Dallas, contributed to TWC's basic subscriber losses last year.
"Barry (Rosenblum) is a highly respected executive with an incredible track record at Time Warner Cable," TWC CEO Glenn Britt said. "I have every confidence that he will build upon Wayne's [Knighton's] success and ensure that Time Warner Cable continues to be the premier video, high-speed Internet and phone provider in Texas."
Rosenblum joined a predecessor to TWC in 1979 and has served in various positions of increasing responsibility ever since. He became the general manager for the company's first Queens, N.Y., cable franchise in 1986, and he achieved the rank of division president in 1990. According to TWC, he was instrumental in the creation of cable's "bundle" of video, voice and Internet services.
Stephen Pagano, formerly the division president for Los Angeles, has been named EVP of the company's newly formed West Region, replacing Rosenblum.
The region, which serves more than 2.5 million basic subscribers, includes Los Angeles as its anchor, along with San Diego and Hawaii. Los Angeles is one of TWC's prime properties and its largest cable system. Pagano, a 25-year veteran of the cable industry who has been in Los Angeles since 2007, will also report to Hobbs.
Lastly, TWC said that New York City Division President Howard Szarfarc has been promoted to EVP. Szarfarc, also a 25-year TWC veteran, will continue to have day-to-day operating responsibility for the New York City region.
TWC elevated its New York City operation, which serves 1.4 million basic subscribers, from a division to a region due to its size and prominence, and due to the fact that New York City is the nation's largest Designated Market Area (DMA).
Szarfarc formerly reported to Rosenblum but will now report to Hobbs.
