SMC Networks shows DOCSIS 3.0 modem with 320 Mbps downstream speed
By Mike Robuck
CedMagazine.com - December 02, 2008

SMC Networks has a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem for enterprise businesses with download speeds of 320 Mbps.

SMC Networks said the business-class modem, which is called the SMC 8x4 Cable Modem (SMCD3CM-DD), is the first to bond eight channels on the downstream and four on the upstream. Currently, cable operators such as Vidéotron and Comcast are bonding three channels on the downstream to reach residential and business speeds of 50 Mbps.

The modem uses channel-bonding technology supplied by Texas Instruments' TNETC4840, which is a member of its Puma 5 family of DOCSIS 3.0 chipsets (story here).

The modem, which has “sample availability,” is being shown at the Future of Cable Business Services Show in New York.
