SES Americom secures IPTV with Verimatrix
By Brian Santo

SES Americom is adopting Verimatrix’s Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for IPTV content security on its IP-Prime distribution service.

Verimatrix is providing a comprehensive security architecture that enables end-to-end encryption for multichannel SD and HD broadcasts from the IP-Prime Broadcast Center, while enabling the integration of local broadcast and video-on-demand (VOD) services.

This solution, which Verimatrix pointed out is compatible with the Nokia Siemens Networks’ Home Entertainment IPTV middleware, will allow operators the ability to rollout a complete package of IPTV services quickly and economically.

VCAS for IPTV 2.3 can support small- or large-scale deployments and has been enhanced to support a variety of wholesale/reseller configurations . This type of support is key for the particular structure of the North American market, where local telecommunications carriers do not always have the resources to build their own video headends, Verimatrix said.

Addressing the challenge in these smaller markets means enabling central content aggregation and distribution, the company continued, while offering options for local content and control over the subscriber interface. From a security perspective, it is important that the multi-tier distribution does not create any security holes and provides a straightforward path for security upgrades, such as user-specific forensic watermarking, in the client devices.
