Xfinity Home adds another smart lock

Comcast has partnered with Kwikset for the release of the Kwikset SmartCode 914 smart lock. The doorlock was made available to Xfinity subscribers yesterday. The deadbolt lock can be purchased online for $219.99.

Wave Broadband said it has acquired ReallyFast, an ISP in Seattle that specializes in services for multi-unit housing and business customers. Separately, a Wave subsidiary that provides residential gigabit connectivity has expanded with its first clients in Everett, WA.


DASH guidelines bring in live video and DAI

The DASH Industry Forum published the third version of its Interoperability Implementation Guidelines, which include interoperability points for live, on-demand and time-shifted video streaming using AVC/H.264 and HEVC/H.265 codecs.

ContentWise upgrades its recommendation engine

Suddenlink plans to invest nearly $250 million over the course of three years to increase internet speeds for its consumers in Texas, and another $40 million investment this year to increase internet speeds in West Virginia, part of a rollout of upgrades announced last year.


ACA petitions FCC to help control content costs

Comcast bringing 10GigE to Denver

Comcast is investing $2 million in Northern California and $10 million in Denver to provide 10 Gbps Ethernet service. Comcast’s portfolio of Ethernet options will be offered in the new Denver and Northern California networks as will “a cloud based voice and unified communications solution.”

Telus tabs $4B to upgrade wireless, wireline networks in Alberta

Telus in Canada plans to upgrade all wireless sites in Alberta to 4G LTE, to utilize Telus’ newly acquired AWS-3 spectrum within the province, and to increase wireline internet speeds to 100 Mbps.
