While Time Warner Cable waits in the wings to be acquired by Comcast, the nation’s second-largest cable saw its third-quarter net income drop 6 percent. On the subscriber front, Time Warner Cable lost 184,000 residential video customers in the quarter, which was partially offset by the addition of 92,000 data customers and 14,000 voice subscribers.
TiVo has forged an agreement with Walmart’s Vudu service to provision the latter’s streaming content to TiVo devices. The deal allows TiVo’s Roamio and Mini users to rent or buy movies and TVs shows from Vudu’s content partners, as well as access a customized Ultraviolet cloud library.

Aided by an increase in broadband subscribers, Charter Communications increased its revenue in the third quarter while also cutting its net losses. Charter added 94,000 data subscribers in the third, which helped offset the loss of 9,000 basic video subscribers. Charter had lost 27,000 video subscribers in the same quarter a year ago
Cox Communications is taking its Gigabit talents to Virginia where the superfast service will be available via a greenfield fiber build to homes in the Viridian Reserve at Hickory in Chesapeake. The 1-Gig service, which Cox calls “G1GABLAST,” will be available near the end of next year to 165 homes in the new housing development.
Facebook grew its advertising revenue by 64 percent in the third quarter, helped by a boost in mobile ads that are becoming an increasingly large chunk of the social networking giant's overall advertising business. FilmOn has notified the FCC it intends to begin retransmitting local broadcast channels to authenticated subscribers. The company said it has established headends to receive, record and stream local broadcast station video programming to consumers in dozens of designated market areas.
Suddenlink Communications has hired Mike Shelton as vice president of fiscal operations for the cable operator’s North Carolina Region. In his new job, Shelton will be responsible for all aspects of regional fiscal operations including financial planning and analysis, warehouse and inventory control functions, as well as credit and collections efforts.
Starting in December, Bright House Networks will upgrade subscribers’ broadband speeds across some of its most popular tiers, as well as launch a residential 300 Mbps offering in Florida early next year. The speed upgrades are slated for the following tiers, Bright House Networks Standard Internet will move from 10 Mbps to 15 Mbps; Lightning 30 to 35 Mbps; Lightning 60 will move to 75 Mbps and Lightning 90 will increase to 150 Mbps.
