Portugal’s Zon TVCabo selects Jungo’s middleware

Jungo Ltd., an NDS Group company and a provider of software offerings for residential gateways, today announced that Zon TVCabo, Portugal’s largest triple-play cable operator, has chosen a suite of Jungo’s broadband software technologies to support the operator’s residential and business customers.

Zon TVCabo picked Jungo’s OpenRG and OpenSMB DOCSIS 3.0 gateway middleware for its new Zon Net Wideband and ZON Empresas home and small office gateways, as well as Jungo’s Support Cost Reduction (SCR) offering for cable operators and its Jungo Remote Management System (JRMS).

“We were seeking to provide our customers with DOCSIS 3.0 gateways with wireless and voice capabilities that deliver the highest possible value while minimizing our capital expenditure . We realized early on that hardware and software do not need to come from the same vendor and, in fact, that the separation of the two is a great way to enable true flexibility, now and in the future,” said Luis Lopes, executive director of Zon Multimedia.

Jungo’s technology enables multimedia offerings in subscribers’ homes, including complete broadband access, 802.11n wireless, IP telephony, highly secure high-speed Web access, print sharing, file sharing and UpNP AV media sharing.

Small business customers can use Jungo’s “office-in-a-box” platform that delivers a wide range of business features, such as advanced PBX over SIP capabilities for multiple users, as well as two PacketCable voice ports for fax and a credit card swipe reader, all with minimized setup and maintenance costs.
