Hargray tunes up video services with RGB
By Mike Robuck

Hargray Communications Group is using RGB Networks’ Broadcast Network Processor (BNP) to offer more HD choices to its residential subscribers, and to deliver video services to a hotel.

Hargray, which provides quad-play services to residential and business customers in Georgia and South Carolina, is using RGB’s BNP platform to deliver up to 50 percent more HD programming to its subscribers while using the same amount of bandwidth – without losing picture quality.

To enable a major, unnamed hotel customer to provide its 1,200 guest rooms with a wide selection of broadcast and premium programming without the need for set-top boxes, Hargray is using another BNP in conjunction with RGB’s Universal Scalable Modulator (USM).

In this application, the BNP grooms a custom channel lineup specifically for the hotel, which is then modulated by the USM for delivery over Hargray’s HFC network and received by the guests’ QAM tuner-equipped TVs, eliminating the need for costly set-top boxes.

“Hargray’s success with the BNP and the USM is the latest example of how our video solutions allow service providers to seamlessly deliver more HDTV and other revenue-generating services without sacrificing quality,” said Lou Mastrocola, vice president of American sales for RGB Networks.

RGB said Advanced Media Technologies (AMT), a major reseller of RGB’s products, played a significant role in this deployment with Hargray.
