Edgeware has announced a global IPTV cooperation with Ericsson, whereby Edgeware will integrate its solid-state video-on-demand (VOD) platform with Ericsson’s end-to-end IPTV solution and OpenStream Digital Services platform.

The integration will allow cable operators worldwide to deploy advanced on-demand TV services, the companies said. Edgeware’s network-distributed server architecture enables operators to use their existing network, even when bandwidth and quality of service (QoS) are limited, by caching popular content close to the viewers. 

Edgeware’s flash memory-based network server appliances bring additional benefits to operators, such as carrier-grade reliability, 99 percent energy savings and the highest stream density on the market, according to the company.

Additionally, Edgeware revealed that ioko, a digital media systems provider, recently completed a successful lab trial with the Edgeware Web TV server . This trial was part of ioko's assessment of caching and serving technologies for a range of new Web video distribution services.

Edgeware's Web TV servers cache and deliver up to 32,000 concurrent video streams over the open Internet, and they can also be distributed in operator networks or co-location facilities.

Edgeware’s current and future American customers include cable operators, telcos and, more recently, providers of TV and video services over-the-top via the Internet, including ZillionTV (story here).
