Actiontec enables Ethernet over MoCA, HPNA
By Brian Santo
CedMagazine.com - May 05, 2009

New Ethernet-over-Coax Adapters enable easy broadband connection to set-top boxes and other Internet-ready entertainment devices using the home’s existing coaxial cable.

Actiontec Electronics has introduced two new home network adapters, one that will enable Ethernet over Coax (using MoCA) and Ethernet over HomePNA.

The company is aiming the products at the home cinema market, specifically mentioning professional installers, typically members of the CEDIA trade association.

MoCA and HomePNA leverage existing wiring for connectivity among set-top boxes, media centers, DVRs, gaming consoles and other devices . Actiontec said its network adapters add Internet connectivity to home theaters without rewiring or relying on wireless routers, which can have spotty coverage.

Actiontec is using chips from Entropic Communications for its MoCA adapter and CopperGate Communications for its HomePNA product.

Both products will be available through Actiontec-authorized distributors.
