Mediacom Communications has promoted J.R. Walden to SVP of technology.

In this role, Walden will direct all technology-related functions for the company, including engineering, IP networks, IP services and their associated support organizations.

Mediacom Chairman Rocco Commisso said: “J.R . [Walden] is largely responsible for the founding of Mediacom’s Internet business and has played a critical role in essentially all of our new technology deployments over the last decade. His extraordinary technical expertise and management skills will greatly benefit our company as we continue to rollout new advanced products and services.”

Walden began his career working for the U.S. Department of Defense in military research, where he was introduced to mainframes, supercomputers and the Internet.

Later, while employed by defense contractors Comarco and Science Application International Corp., he became involved with, and ultimately managed, an early municipal dial-up Internet business that was acquired by Mediacom in 1996.

Walden officially joined Mediacom in 1998 and most recently served as group vice president of IP Services, a position he has held since July 2004.
