Hong Kong-based broadcaster Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) has tapped Thomson’s digital terrestrial television (DTT) product line for deployment.

TVB’s DTT system is a turnkey video headend system that includes compression, multiplexing, and electronic program guide (EPG) management for the transmission of standard-definition (SD) and high-definition (HD) video using both MPEG-2 and H.264 standards.

TVB will be using Thomson’s ViBE SD and HD encoders, NetProcessor 9030 MPEG video processors for hybrid statistical multiplexing, Jade EPG servers, and XMS management system.

Established in 1967 with a staff of 200, TVB was the first terrestrial free-to-air commercial television broadcaster in Hong Kong. The company currently has a staff of approximately 4,500 and transmits more than 16,000 hours of programming on its Chinese Jade channel and English Pearl channel to 2.29 million homes in Hong Kong.
